Inspired by the ancient cliffs of Møns Klint, this new series of glass works emerges from a fascination with time, erosion, and the quiet power of the landscape. Formed over millions of years, the chalk cliffs stand as a meeting point between earth, sea, and sky—a place where light is constantly transformed. Through layers of glass, shifting transparencies, and subtle variations in surface and depth, the works evoke the experience of standing at the edge of the cliffs, where the horizon dissolves and geological history becomes tangible. Rather than depicting the landscape, the pieces seek to distill its essence: the luminous white of the chalk, the deep blue of the Baltic Sea, and the fleeting Nordic light that continually reshapes the perception of place. The festival brings together leading artists, makers, and institutions, celebrating the diversity, innovation, and expressive potential of glass as an artistic medium. The work selected for the festival is from my series Terræn, which was also featured in the Danish Biennale for Craft & Design earlier this year. Inspired by the traces, formations, and shifting structures found within the landscape, Terræn explores the relationship between geological processes and human perception. Through layered surfaces and subtle material interventions, the series reflects on how landscapes are shaped by time and how memories of place become embedded within the material itself. This piece was created in March 2022 during my residency at the Flint Institute of Arts, supported by the Danish Arts Foundation. During my time there, I was deeply inspired by the Michigan landscape — the old apple trees, the soil, and the traces of early spring. Each morning on my way to the studio, I collected branches, leaves, and soil from the surroundings. I burned the materials, mixed the ashes with sifted earth and stone, and applied them to the glass surface during the final heating. This process gave the piece its dark, earthy skin — a reflection of place, memory, and transformation. It means so much to see this work find a permanent home at one of the most significant art museums in the U.S. — and in the same state where it was created.
