About
ARTIST STATEMENT
My glass sculptures arises from a deep fascination with the infinite complexity and fragile beauty of nature. Through my work, I explore the organic patterns and rhythms found in nature, as well as the tensions and contrasts that emerge when they encounter man-made structures. In a time when the distance between humans and nature is only growing, I seek to create images and objects that invite reflection on our relationship with the world we are part of — and which we must still learn to protect.
Glass is central to my practice. It is transparent and fragile, yet also strong and vibrant in its ability to capture and transform light. I work with glass as a kind of archive for nature’s traces — by using leaves, branches, and other organic elements as stamps, I create textures and patterns that carry the memory of life’s fleeting moments. The process is both meditative and experimental, a balance between control and chance. My work is about finding beauty in the ephemeral, about capturing the transient and making it visible. It is a tribute to nature’s own language, but also a reminder that we do not stand outside of it — we are right in the midst of it.
BIO
Lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Morten Klitgaard was born in 1981 in Lønstrup, a small coastal town in Northern Denmark. Growing up surrounded by raw, windswept nature and the ever-present westerly wind shaped his senses and his way of seeing the world. In this stark, rugged landscape, he developed a deep appreciation for subtlety, texture, and the quiet details of his surroundings — qualities that continue to inform his work today. He began his journey into glassmaking under the guidance of local artist Leif Vange, and later spent three formative years training with renowned Danish glassblower Tobias Møhl, known internationally for his refined use of traditional Venetian techniques. During this period, Morten also studied with Dante Marioni in a masterclass that deepened his passion for the material and its possibilities. Seeking to develop his artistic voice, he enrolled at The Royal Danish Design School on Bornholm, where he earned his BA in 2012. Since then, Morten has continued to explore and push the boundaries of glass as a medium. He has participated in a masterclass at Pilchuck Glass School with Nadege Desgenetez, and completed artist residencies at both the College for Creative Studies in Detroit and the Flint Institute of Arts. —Today, Morten’s work is a reflection of his roots — shaped by nature, honed by tradition, and driven by curiosity.
